Friday, December 2, 2022, Alco Weeke, SkillSea technical project coordinator, presented the draft recommendation of SkillSea to the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee meeting. The Committee provides a permanent instrument promoting the dialogue between the social partners in the Maritime Sector at European level and amongst others for exchanging knowledge and information between social partners and the European Commission.

The Social Dialogue Committee, amongst others, is focusing on:

  1. following market, employment & policy developments
  2. identification of new skills needs to ensure long-term prosperity (e.g., a project to set up a European jobs & skills council for the maritime technology sector)
  3. the sector's image & its attractiveness to young people

Mark Dickinson from ETF and Tim Springett from ECSA expressed their appreciation and support for the project. Despite the sometimes-complex collaboration in the project, mainly due to the size of the consortium and the variety of stakeholders and participating countries, they concluded from the presentation made by Alco Weeke that the project was well on track and that the output of the project looked very promising and relevant for the maritime transport sector in the coming years. Moreover, the social partners are committed to these important issues and are planning to organise a high level event on green skills during the first semester of 2023 to mark the European year of Skills.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Erasmus+ programme under grant agreement 2018 – 3387/ 001- 001 (Project number 601186)
